Connect Shopify to SECND

Connect your Shopify store using a custom app you create yourself.

Last updated 2026-05-24

TL;DR

Shopify connects through a custom app you create in your Shopify admin. You generate an API key and secret in Shopify, paste them into SECND, and approve the connection. SECND then has access to list, update, and read orders.

Before you start

You need owner or staff-with-app-permissions access to your Shopify admin so you can create a custom app. SECND works with any Shopify plan.

Note

Unlike most marketplaces, Shopify does not have a one-click Connect button. You create a custom app inside your Shopify admin, then paste its credentials into SECND. The whole thing takes a few minutes.

Create a Shopify custom app

In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps, then click Create an app. Name it “SECND” (or anything you like) and pick yourself as the developer.

In the new app, open Configuration → Admin API integration and grant these scopes:

read_products, write_products, read_inventory, write_inventory, read_orders, write_orders, read_locations, read_publications, write_publications, read_files, write_files.

Save, then open the API credentialstab. You'll see an API key and an API secret key. Keep this tab open — you'll paste both into SECND next.

Connect SECND

1

Open Connect

In the SECND sidebar, click Connect. The page is titled Marketplaces.

2

Click the Shopify card

Click Connect on the Shopify card. A short form opens.
3

Fill in the three fields

Paste your shop domain (e.g. yourstore.myshopify.com), the API key, and the API secret key from the custom app you just created.
4

Approve on Shopify

Click Connect Shopify. SECND redirects you to your store to approve the install. Click Install app.
5

Land back on Marketplaces

Shopify sends you back to the Marketplaces page with a green “Shopify connected” banner. SECND starts pulling your products immediately.

Settings to configure

Click the Shopify card on the Marketplaces page. The Settings panel appears in the right sidebar with the fields below.

Use Store Tags

When on, SECND uses the tags your Shopify store already applies to products instead of generating new ones. Leave on if you have a tag taxonomy you rely on for collections or filtering.

Publish Status

Whether new products SECND pushes are published to your storefront immediately (Active) or held back as Draft. Draft is the safe default while you're still tuning content.

Vendor Field

Whether Shopify's Vendor field is populated with the product's brand or your shop name. Use Brand if your storefront filters by brand; use Shop name if you resell consigned goods under your own banner.

Sales Channels

Which Shopify sales channels new products are published to: All channels, Selected channels (pick the list in the SECND desktop app), or Do not publish. Most stores leave this on All channels.

On Delist

What happens to the Shopify product when SECND delists it. Out of stock drops inventory to zero but keeps the product page live; Draft hides it from the storefront; Delete permanently removes it (SECND asks you to confirm).
