Square Terminal consignment checkout

Pair a Square Terminal and use it for SECND consignment register card payments.

TL;DR

Open Consignment → Settings, generate a Square Terminal pairing code, enter it on the device, refresh terminals, and select the paired device. During a card checkout, SECND sends the sale total to Square Terminal and records the consignment sale after Square approves the payment.

Before you start

Connect Square first and approve the Terminal permissions. The Square account needs payment write, in-person payment, and device credential management access so SECND can create pairing codes and send checkouts to your Terminal.

Pair a Terminal

Open consignment settings

In SECND, go to Consignment → Settings. The Square register section shows your location, Terminal selector, and pairing controls.

Generate a pairing code

Click Generate pairing code. SECND asks Square for a Terminal API device code and displays it in the settings panel.

Enter the code on Square Terminal

On the Square Terminal, open device-code pairing and enter the code exactly as shown. After the device pairs, return to SECND.

Refresh and select the device

Click Refresh terminals, choose the paired Terminal, and SECND saves that device for future consignment checkouts.

Ring up a customer

In Consignment → Sell, scan or tap items to build the cart. Click Pay, choose Card as the payment method, and click Send to Square Terminal. The customer taps, inserts, or swipes on the Terminal. Once Square marks the checkout complete, SECND records one sale row per cart item under the same transaction.

Cash checkouts skip Square Terminal and record directly. For Canadian cash sales, SECND rounds the transaction total to the nearest nickel and stores the rounding adjustment on the sale.

Payment states

Pending means the Terminal is waiting for the customer. In progress means Square is processing. Completedrecords the sale with Square's payment id. Cancelled and Timed out stop the checkout so staff can retry or choose another payment method.
